There is something honest about this music. It is rich in samples and textures yet not to the point of being overproduced like so many christian offerings on the shelves today. You don't ever get the feeling that the artists are coming to you from behind a glossy cellophane wrapping and that immediately puts them right in the room with you which creates an innate ability for this album to truly minister to you, a quality not found in a lot of similar genre music in the current market. From the early and somewhat lighter notes of the opening 4 songs, tracks 5 and 6 immediately catapult you to a deep and intimate level where the sense that the artists are really painting is overwhelming. The mixture of strings, melodic vocals and various flavour synths and pads are irresistible yet never fight with each other for space on the proverbial canvas. With the tonal beauty of the album aside, the true character of Colours for a Canvas lies in the heart of its artists. Here husband and wife team Sean and Janine Williams leave you in no doubt of their musical mission: to lead the listener to a place that is closer to God. This is not about album sales or charts. This is about worship in its purest form. Hear their heart and you will hear God's, a bold statement, I know, but one that I stand by fully. It seems God's desire for a true and deep relationship with his people is being birthed now in the hearts of so many so that "future christianity" may be a picture closer to the church of the book of Acts than we ever thought we'd see. Colours for a Canvas champions this desire and should be listened to with the very same intentions with which it was produced.
